I recently attended a workshop with artist Stephen Filarsky. The theme of the workshop was ‘Small Paintings Big Results’. The workshop appealed to me because of his use of red and orange as a wash or background colors for his paintings, which made the finished paintings more cohesive. He also showed us how these small paintings could be developed into large works of art.
It was a great day of painting with other artists. Most of us practiced painting the same subject, a cow. It was interesting that each artist had their own way of ‘seeing’ the subject. Each artist also brought their own reference photo to paint. I chose to paint an old North Carolina farm house. It was great fun!
