During an interview at the opening reception of my solo show in March, I was asked what artist influenced my work. There have been several, but one that readily comes to mine is the late Helen Van Wyk. Many of you may remember her from the painting lessons she shared with us on public television. I am sorry that I never got to meet her. I always admired her simplicity in teaching painting as well as her likeable personality. I have gained much knowledge from her color mixing and her procedures in painting a wide array of subjects. Painting is serious but you can find humor in it and Helen taught me that.
