I Need Your Opinion

As many of you know, a large part of my art consist of paintings on brick pavers. These paintings are decorative and many people display them on tables, bookcases and such. Some of my clients use them as doorstops. They are each signed with my name “Cherry” and the year of completion.

Well I decided to add a disclaimer to go along with the bricks. I would love to get your opinion on it. Please let me know what you think. Here goes.

My Experience At The African American Cultural Festival

I was recently chosen to be one of about 25 artists to display my work at the African American Cultural Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina. Having my work chosen to be in shows is not new for me but to be chosen to be in a show as large as this one was a new experience for me.

The show was for two days, Saturday and Sunday. 30,000 to 40,000 people was expected to come. Yes, this show would definitely require more preparation. I knew that I needed to take as much of my art work as possible. It’s better to carry more than I needed rather than not enough. Time for a quick inventory of my work. Okay, am out of three of my most popular prints, so am off to my favorite printer to have more made.

Proper weights are going to be required for my tent because sometimes its windy and I don’t want my tent to become airborne. So off to Lowe’s to purchase my materials. (I want to make my own weights.) But enough with the preparations, on to the show.

!AACF BoothAfter being directed to the area where my tent was to be, I began unloading with the help of family members and festival volunteers. I loved the excitement in the air as all of the artists, food vendors, performers and stage hands set up for the two day event.

From the beginning of the show I stayed busy talking with visitors. I met a pig farmer and his wife who fell in love with my paintings of pigs on the beach and my painting of pigs having a romantic evening in a restaurant. We had some laughs and they purchased the paintings and  were looking forward to hanging them in their home.

The festival was a wonderful experience and a  great opportunity for me to meet future collectors, talk about my work and forge connections. If you would like to know more about my art world and see some of my work visit my website at http://www.sandracherryjones.com

Vintage Wine Painting On A Brick

This is the third in a series of paintings that I am doing on wine bottles. They are each painted on a brick paver. These pavers are often used for paving walkways and driveways but I love painting my art on them. Some of my collectors use these pavers as doorstops but most of them display them on tables, shelves and mantles.

My Hero (Excerpt From My Grandaughter’s Essay

Image

“My hero”  is the title that my grandaughter gave to an essay assignment she was given in school. Not only was I surprised that I was chosen as the subject but I was more surprised by what she wrote. This is an excerpt from her essay.

“My grandma is my hero because I don’t know many people that can find a hobby and turn it into a career and still be a loving mother, wife, and grandmother. (Amazing!) To you this might not seem like a big deal but to me it’s special and cool because it tells me that no dream is too big or too small to come true and for that this paper is dedicated to her. I love you grandma and if you ask me you are living life the way it should be…starting with a dream.”

I have this essay hanging in my studio. I am so inspired by my granddaughter and so many others. It was a shock to everyone  that knew me when I started entering art shows ans selling my work. They did’nt see that coming neither did I. I never thought about maybe I was too old to start my “art thing” or that maybe my work was not good enough. I just knew that it was what I wanted to do.

I know this statement is used over and over, but here it is again

Painting In Progress Video

I have a video of one of my paintings in progress on You Tube. This is my first video.   I used a red painted canvas to support the background of the painting. I started using this technique for some of my paintings after taking a workshop with artist, Stephen Filarsky. I love the way that the red color is left throughout parts of the painting. I hope that you will check it out  on You Tube.  The title of it is ” Fishing Showdown Painting In Progress”. LIKE it if you like it.

Small Paintings

These paintings are part of a series of small paintings that I am doing. They are 5″x7″ inches in size and are painted on canvas panels. I used my favorite medium,  acrylics. They are of Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, his self-portrait, and my love birds.
